How it works

(This is meant to be an easy intro. There is a technical manual page but much more information is available at the Apache::MiniWiki home page: http://www.nyetwork.org/wiki/MiniWiki)

Writing and creating pages is simple. If you see a page that you wish to change, just press the "Edit" link. You will then receive a page where you can edit the information. When you subsequently press "Submit", having done your changes, the page is updated on the server.

Instead of using regular HTML code, all content is written as plain text which is formatted into HTML when viewed. Try out some editing, play in the playground.

The following is true for all pages:

 • The first line on any page will always become the page's header.
 • If you wish to link to other pages, you can write links like this: Description. For example, to make a link to the main page (index), you can write: Main page. The description is optional: is also a valid link.
 • You can create bold or underlined text by putting * or _ on both sides of the text.
 • Unnumbered lists (like this) are written by putting an asterisk and a space in front of the rows.
 • Numbered lists are written by putting a number (1, 2, 3...) followed by a ")" parenthesis in front of every row.
 • Headings are lines starting with heading numbering such as "1" or "1.2".
 • Three dashes or more after each other produces a horizontal line across the page.

If someone creates a link to a page that doesn't exist yet, it will be shown by a small question mark following the description. By pressing the question mark, one is prompted to create the page.

To create a new page first create a link to it by editing another page. Then follow that link.

Images (files with extentions .gif, .jpg, .jpeg) can be uploaded by creating a link with that suffix, saving the page and following the link. Large images are automatically thumbnailed for display. Clicking on the image displays it full size.

Binary files (extentions .gz, .zip) can be uploaded similarly to images making the files available for download.

All changes are automatically kept under change control and each page's change history can be reviewed using the "Old versions" link. A summary of all changes to all pages on this site is found at the "Site changes" link.

All pages use the template for common layout features. This references the style.css ? style sheet for fonts, colours etc.

The logo for the template is uploaded here: sitelogo.gif sitelogo.gif [E]. (Click on the [E] to upload a different site logo.)
